i`m the big fan of G series,.. own G3 since 2003 ..
and it`s time to replace it with the new G .. but, canon doesn`t give swivel LCD again on their G series since G6 cmiiw .. will canon someday bring back this fantastic swivel LCD on G series?? since the quality of powershot S series can`t beat G

They would have to make the screen smaller and I'm against that....

Agreed, all set with the articulating LCD.

The way i use my G10, i do not want any more mechanical parts that are vulnerable to damage.
And as CJinAustin said, i like the 3" size, too. |

The S5 IS has a 2.5" screen compared to the G10's 3" screen. It also looks considerably bigger and bulkier than the G10.

It's not the first time Canon cripples a higher specced camera
It's just like how the xxxD series DSLR did not have Spot metering at one stage whilst the cheapest Point and Shoot did, or like how the 5D2 does not have Custom Self Timer mode whereas the 450D and 500D does, or like how the xxxD series and the 5D2 has the IR remote compatibility, but the xxD series does not |

I guess that depends on what you consider crippled. For people who would rather NOT have an articulating LCD, it's more of a benefit of the G10.

I agree. I love swiveling LCDs. Great for inconspicuous street shooting, odd angled shots, low angled Macro shots, & keeping your LCD screen in immaculate condition. It's the prime reason, among others, that I didn't consider a G model newer than the G6. As an extra bonus, it being an older, less desirable model, I was able to purchase a mint condition example off of EBay a few months ago for $200. To each his own.

the swivelling lcd is called a 'protected position lcd' having it in a protected position does not make it more vulnerable as you have suggested it makes it more protected!

Handling a camera with the foldout screen gives more options to damage the hinges or the display in my opinion, but a fixed display is just my personal preference. |
