Any ideas please?

(Idea 1) Have you done this?
Set the camera's communication setting to [Print/PC] by turning the Power Switch <ON>, and then press the <MENU> button to display the menu.
Rotate the Quick Control Dial to select the [Communication] item, and press the <SET> button.
Rotate the Quick Control Dial to select the [Print/PC], and press the <SET> button.
Turn the camera <OFF> and back on

(Idea 2) Then, have you installed the whole suite of applications on the CD or just the EOS utility? After that, you should go to the canon UK website and get the updates. Your CD will be a few years old.

(Idea 3) Also, your computer may have a front panel USB port plus rear panel USB ports. Try the rear panel ports.

I hope that one of the above ideas helps.
