Default First AIRSHOW tips

Hopefully i will be attending my first airshow with my EOS 400D tomorrow and wondered if anyone has any good tips on settings and practices for getting good results of the aircraft in the air. in terms of settings would i be best with a center wieghted metering setting, so that the cammera will set itself for the aircraft and not the sky around it, and what speed do i use etc etc etc thats the sort of thing im thinking through. I will be taking my 70-300 is lens for the in-air shots and my 18-55 is lens for the static shots, and plenty of memory and batteries. Any advice would be verty much appreciated

I think you may have better luck in the Transportation section. Anyways, I love to do panning shots when they're low to the ground. What airshow is this?

I am not sure what you skill level is or what your comfortable with but I find that using manual for airshows is what works best if you have somewhat consistent sky. Just set your exposure either metering off the grass or grey tarmac and then make sure you recheck your exposure every 20-30 mins. The in camera meter is easily fooled in alot of situations and you will end up with nicely exposed sky and underexposed aircraft.

I try to keep my shutter speeds up as high as I can get them with jet aircraft....prop jobs I try to keep it low to get some of the blur from the prop otherwise you will end up with an aircraft that looks like its stalled in mid-air.
