Thanks Guys,
must thank the Auckland Airport authorities for helping out, as the main runway's having maintenance on it (you can't see it straight on from anywhere really) making the front-on shots possible. Damned decent of them.

The aircraft are using the "spare" runway normally used for taxiing.

Very nice!

The first thing I thought when I saw it was,

"Its a 747 Landing at Admore!!!!!!"

If you've ever been to the Eastern end you get a very similar view of the tarmac

For the non-locals Admore is a VERY small local airport, the biggest place that flys out of it is a restored DC-3.

Where was that one shot?

The only place I can think of, I don't know how you can get to that point without jumping fences, and running from security.

Wazza, this was taken not too far from the Puhinui Rd viewing carpark actually, back up the road towards Papatoetoe a bit, just by the security gates. I got "moved along" from the same spot by security a day or so after - they'd spotted me via security camera with 100-400 & hood, and mistook it for a SAM. A couple of Adolf types turned up in a 4wd and demanded to know what I was doing! The conversation from them implied that I wasn't allowed to take photographs as it was "private property" and this within 10m of the main road....

Yes, I see now.

I'm checking my older photos with my Sony V1.

I now realise 05L/23R is dead on line with that security side road. I love listening to the sound vortex of the engines swirling around 30 seconds after it goes past. (That is 500metres further along, just about in line with 23L)

Anyway, here is a shot of an aircraft landing on 23L.
With winter upon us, it's dark early, so will be able to catch some larger birds when it's dark like this.

Looks like his right landing light is burned out...

Excellent shot!!!

I hope to one day get one like that too! I am an avid aviation photography hobbiest, not so good yet though (prety high standards). I am improving still though, I have really learned alot since getting my DRebel. When I can I do alot of shooting through the airplane window. It can really play havoc with sharpness, contrast, color fidelity, you name it. Still I am slowly learning to manage this. I am brand new here and hope to post something soon in this gallery. I currently have a post in the "Post Processing" section begging for help with the haze factor! http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...ad.php?t=73647

No takers yet.

Again beautiful shot,

-Chris

What did you do to the security Joeseph?

I was at the airport on Sunday, and for the first time this year, after 15 visits, I was told to bugger off.

Normally they wave, or don't mind me being where I am.. And this time it wasn't so.

It's amazing how far those 747 wings hang out over the grass! Great shot.
