3. - Any other suggestions on making this shot more effective would be great - (the ring is on the bench - it just has less significance in the photo than I would like)

4 - too dark?

Sorry for the confusing title ... Engagement session, not wedding. Evidently I need more than 4 hours sleep per night or I can't speak correctly the next day.

#1 and #2 are big time winners. A Macro lens would allow you to move closer and more on plane with the ring that would make it more the highlight with them in the background. To save initial expense, you might try renting one or two to find the characteristics that you are looking for.
#4 is a little dark, especially with their black shirts. (just my opinion, it is a nice composition.
#5 is cool, maybe just not quite so centered (again just an thought)
#6 love it.

You did that with a kit lens and a 50 1.8? Awesome stuff.

^^ Thank you so much for the helpful comments!!

Yes, kit lens and nifty fifty is all I have for now. I have my eye on the 24-70 f2.8L but it'll be a while before I let my husband know I'm even thinking about it.

Thanks! Now I don't look like such a fool, maybe it's too late.
