Default My first Milky Way shot

Hey guys, this is my first post in the astro section. I'm an avid night photographer, and I spend lots of time standing out under the stars trying to get cool shots. Last weekend I was out at a friend's house in the country and decided to break out the camera. These were taken with a Tokina 11-16 @ 11mm, f/2.8, 30' exposure, ISO 800, which explains the noise, but you guys get the idea.

Both shots look great.

On the first shot, did you edit the photo very much, or is that basically how it looks straight out of the camera? And it's just one exposure?
Sorry for the newb questions, but I've always wondered how people get shots that are so detailed.

It's edited a little bit, but nothing extreme. I take all my photos in RAW and convert them over in photoshop. Before I convert them I adjust white balance, tone curves, that type of stuff. It's really quite easy to get shots like these, you just need a tripod, a remote shutter release, and a clear night sky. I took these shots at a very high ISO to bring out more detail in the sky, but at the same time you lose IQ due to all the noise. What it comes down to is me needing a better camera.

I'm glad everyone seems to be liking the shots.

That's quite amazing!

How much light pollution is in your neighborhood? I assume you don't live in the city.

Definitely not in the city, probably a good 25 miles away from a highly-populated area. I thought the light pollution would be worse, but it really wasn't too bad out there.
