Default BIG canon website prices Jump!

By the looks of things, Canon are planning another major price increase...

Canon UK's website now has some astronomical RRP's!

Take a look...

300mm L f/2.8 is now £5299.99

400mm L f/2.8 is now £9239.99

17-40 L f/4.0 is now £889.99

70-200 L IS f/4.0 is now £1369.99

70-200 L IS f/2.8 is now £2239.99

Camerapricebuster hasnt shown any changes, but if the retailers/distributors follow these price increases, then we are all in for some hard cash outlays!

We will have to wait and see...though this could be a very bad thing for everyone who is an SLR aficionado, or a pro using their own equipment.

James.

Agreed...which is exactly what I'm doing! The secondhand market is where i'm heading...I own a beautiful 1D mkII with less than 6000 shutter actuations, and it cost me £600. Sure it might look a little beaten up, and it has the usual rub marks but it works, and who cares if it looks a little beaten up...plus it cost me an awful lot LESS than a new 1D mkIII

holy crap... I'll try and take to comfort in that SRP's are super duper inflated anyway but for comparison do we know what the previous SRP were? Google Cached?

Er...not sure on that! But the 400mm was (from memory) £6729.99.

I've been looking at that page and drooling for about the last 3 months, so the price is etched in my mind!

That is a BIG increase. The worry is, that the retail prices (camera price buster) were fairly similar to the SRP's on the Canon site. Certainly less inflated than historically.

They've used that excuse already, and the exchange rate has actually got marginally better recently....

Hmm, interesting. I can't find the 24-105mm f4 IS (unless I'm blind...)

http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Prod...nses/index.asp

And why do they only show the NON-IS versions of the 70-200mm ? More for the rumour mill......

We're in a global recession, Canon must think we 'need' that stuff like bread and butter....

and of course for some - those items are their bread and butter...

Found that section a little after I posted my "complaint". Still strange that the EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS is not in the IS section. Same for the 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 IS. Oh well..

Perhaps this all a plan from Canon to "lead us not into temptation".

Of course, those of us who rely on using Canon for our livelihoods may be more tempted to jack it all in. Unfortunately, Mr Canon wants to retain the same profit when less people are buying, therefore hikes the prices to keep up the same income!

Damn you capitalism!

Not just the UK. Canon's RRP prices on the US site are way higher than what stores have right now too.
