My 1st try at startrails

Hi all

Here is my 1st ever try at taking star trails. Shot in my backgarden last night.
60x30sec exposures at f3.5 ISO 400

Any good for a 1st go?

What should I do different

I set the camera to M, f3.5, BULB, ISO400 and the focus to MF and focused to inifinity and then pointed the camera at the north star. I conected it to my laptop and used the EOS utilility to take 60 off 30 sec exposures. I then used the startrails app from www.startrails.de to combine them in to 1 pic.

I'll try but I think it was a case of beginners luck. I read up on how to shoot startrails then made a best guess at the settings.

I have not attempted such a shot, so I should keep my fingers still rather than typing, but would the "trails" been more concentric if the number of exposures had been much less than 60? My point is that the stars have moved thru a few degrees of arc in the sky during the 1800 seconds that the shots took to accomplish.

The trails are not intact because the earth rotated, but that might have been the effect you were looking for.

The above is not a criticism, as I said I have not tried it at all, and have no right to criticize.

Like I said this was my very 1st attempt at anything like this. I was hoping to have another go tonight, but we have 100% cloud coverage here (northern england) at the moment.
