Default Solid Rock: A Visual History of Australian Rock Music

Tonight this exhibition opens in Melbourne - three of my shots will be hung out of a total of 38 photos. I feel privileged to be a part of it - especially after seeing some of the other photos. Kudos to Kirsty Umback for opening her gallery and for putting this exhibition on. It's my first time as an exhibitionist.

Commencing with a VIP launch on Thursday 20th of August 2009, The Raw Gallery in South Melbourne is pleased to present its debut Photographic exhibition - a showcase aimed at celebrating iconic Australian musicians from the 1960s through to today.
This free exhibition will be open to the public over a period of four weeks from Friday the 21st August until Wednesday 16th of September.
Unlike their international contemporaries, the brilliant work of Australia’s finest “home-grown” rock photographers from the past five decades has largely gone unrecognised and unheralded. Despite this, photographers working in the Australian music industry have managed to produce a large collection of outstanding imagery charting the progression of our most talented and best-loved musicians.
The shots featured in this exhibition have graced album covers, promotional material and magazine articles over the years however, this is the first time many of these images – and more besides – have been assembled together, exhibited and made available to the public as limited edition Fine Art prints.
The exhibition features the work of Philip Morris, Wendy McDougall, Greg Noakes, Colin Beard, Richard Sharman, Kim Tonelli, David Corio, Craig Goldman, Kirsty Umback and highly regarded contemporary Melbourne talent Kane Hibberd. The Raw Gallery will be displaying over 30 archival quality prints, featuring such subjects as Nick Cave and the Birthday Party, AC/DC, The Church, The Presets, Cold Chisel, Paul Kelly, The Easybeats, INXS and many more. This is the first exhibition of its kind in Australia. However, this is by no means a definitive anthology of Australian artists, only a representative sample of the diverse and high-quality material available through The Raw Gallery.

Congrats!!!

Any chance you can get a snapshot of your work in the gallery and post it here?

That would be quite an exhibition to see.

Mine were printed by CPL in Melbourne using a new gloss Fuji fine art paper, I'm not usually a fan of gloss but the finish is stunning.

Thanks Benon - I didn't take photos at the opening. I was too busy for that. Someone was taking photos which I assume will appear somewhere.

Way to do it right, Richard... Congrats.

That print 20x30 must be awesome... just looking at the small version speaks for itself... The detail of the faces alone makes it great...

There were a couple of red stickers on the night (none on mine) - I'd say that there will be some though during the next few weeks.

One of the images in the exhibition is black and white photo that was used for the cover art of their Head Injuries album.
