My G3 was working fine all day up until tonight. Went to turn it on and it kept shutting down and occasionally giving me the "e24" error.
1. Could still take pic's with it. 2. No display at all. 3. Wouldn't stay on in the "view mode". 4. Would shut down if display was rotated. After scouring the net for info on the error (and soon after realizing these are service only errors), I found a post (not sure which forum) saying the plugs to the LCD screen may have come unplugged. Having no hope of getting my 2.5 yr old camera fixed for free, I dove in and found just that. One of the 2 harness plugs had been pulled from the LCD. After un-twisting the 2 bundles I plugged them both back in and "PRESTO" good as old. Still a little bit suspicious of how badly the wire bundles were twisted. Since technically the rotation of the LCD screen is never a full rotation around. I assume that because the insulation on the wire is rubber, constant twisting of the screen over time can cause the wires to stick together and begin to tug on the connections (the 1 that was intact was on its way out also). Longer story shorter if u are having this problem as stated above and are past your warranty give this a shot. Was pretty straight forward. Just remove the 2 screws on either end of the display (have to rotate the screen to get the 2 closest to the camera), check to see if it is indeed unplugged. If this helps out even one person I will feel even more satisfied than I do now. Sorry if this has been posted b4. Last edited by DizzyDevil : 17th of May 2005 (Tue) at 18:10. |

Good find. I suspect that the twisting LCD presents the user with such problems down the road. But, how can anyone live without it!

THANK YOU so much for your post! I had the exact same problem and was able to fix it the way you described. Considering that a) this happened once before to me and I payed a shop about $160 to fix it and, b) I'm in central Mexico for a month, I was so happy that I was able to fix my camera myself. I am not at all electronically inclined so I was scared to do it but it actually was simple. Your post was definitely worth it and thank you again!
btw, I did not see anything similar to your post on my short search. |

Actually, This has been discussed here before, but, IMHO, it's good to bring this up again because the search doesn't seem to always find it.
As Dizzy Devil pointed out, if this saved even one person from having to send their "G" to the shop, then it was worth it. -Bruce |

Thank you DizzyDevil, sorry you ended up having so many problems w/ your G3 after the successful untangling in May. I have a G2 and had blamed my husband for causing the issue and in turn I thought causing us to buy a new camera, but after reading your post, I did some manipulating of the LCD and viola, it's fixed! Thank you!!!!!

I signed up, and am doubtless bumping this thread from utter nothingness to add... THANK YOU!
The tree is decorated, the presents are there, we bought the tiny size one Santa suit. Baby is co-operating and in fact really pleased with his Santa duties. Hubby gets out the tripod, sets it all up, switches the LCD around to get the best angle.... E24... We have had the g3 for 5 years and it is an awesome camera. The whole thought that they would have charged me heaps just for knowing "where" to plug it in... Sadly, Now Santa Jr is asleep. Try again tomorrow. |
