Hi. I just got a new copy of this. I have a 580 EX flash also. The 430 EX II flash makes a "bum bum" noise when it gets turned on. It's like a few parts are lining up inside. Is this normal? My 580 EX just makes a battery sound.
Thanks in advance!

Its just the zoom motor coming online, if its the same noise I'm thinking about. My 430ex does the same thing.

Thank god. I thought the "bum bum" was just a commentary from MY 430ex flash about my life style...

You people are so literal! Just like my husband.
Watch this video from my backyard and listen to the background. That is the noise that my batteries make! http://snowlens.blogspot.com/2008/10...ing-video.html

Batteries don't, or at least shouldn't make a sound. You will hear a high pitched noise as the capacitor charges. Does the squirrel keep comming back?

The twirl a squirrel is a one time ride. They go on it once and never, ever get close to it again! You can just have it on the feeder, turned off and they won't bother the feeder. Squirrels HATE being dizzy!

I need to get one. Come to think of it, there are amusement rides that I never go back on, maybe I'm a squirrel
