After using my camera (D60) for only about 2 weeks, I had my IBM 1gig microdrive quit working. It would not format and it locked up my computer when I tried to scandisk it for errors. Next I purchased a 512 compactflash card and it started giving the same error the same day! Has anybody had the same problem?

In the UK you have 28 days to return goods, why not get a swap for another D60, do you have access to another digital camera to run some tests on the cards.
Q1. Does the card/drive work in another makers camera, worth a try. Q2. Could your card reader on your computer be at fault, it's not uncommon for 2 faults to happen at the same time. Also note micro drives work hotter than CF, they have caused problems in earlier semi-domestic digital cameras, try sticking to CF if finances will allow. I always find that the more damming evidence you have to back up your claim the shop will have no option but to change or refund. |

Are you formatting in the camera or in a PC? I only format my CF cards in the camera, because I have read of problems formatting them in the PC and then using in the camera.
I don't like the idea of the micro drive, I had an interest and then decided to go to all CF cards when I had read and heard people having problems with them... Just my opinion...

I ended up taking the camera to Canon. Looks like it will be out of comission for a couple of weeks! Thanks for all the advice too. I think I will stick with the compact flash from now on.

I have a microdrive and the D60 and they have both been working fine. However, when I didn't format the micro-drive in the camera I have also had problems. As long as I format in the camera, no problems.

I've had my D60 for a month now and I've had lots of trouble downloading the images. After much troubleshooting (too lengthy to mention here), I think my problems all get back to... USB 2.0!
I'm not convinced USB 2.0 is as backward compatible as the marketing crap indicates. The big clue to success came when I discovered my card reader works just fine on my not-so-new work laptop. My winning combo: A SANDisk ImageMate CF card reader connected to an Adaptec "USB2 Connect" four-port PCI adapter. I used the default Windows 2000 driver instead of the Adaptec driver. According to the manual, this card runs at USB 1.1 without the Adaptec driver. That works for me. While I should try the camera directly on this new USB setup, I don't want to mess with a good thing. Besides, I'd rate the Canon software a C- on usability. The CF reader is a much better way to go! Have other people had these problems? |
