After that fiasco at the 500' ceiling air show, it's nice to have a shoot that I have some control over! This was the same location I used for this thread:

1. Tuesday the weather looked perfect, so I called Jim & we set up a time for the shoot. I'd already picked the location for the shots in #3 & 4 & we met at a nearby car show at 7PM.

This is a bit busier than I usually like, but I liked the "S" curve the curbs made & thought they added interest to the image.

4. We took some rolling shots to use as a background. It was important to first decide what side to take them from, and what side the beauty shot would be from so he could hang the Camaro image next to the one of the AMX. ( I already know what we're going to do if/when he decides to shoot his 3rd car! PPPPPP!! LOL!)




5 .I asked Jim to drive around me in a circle at a constant speed so I could use different shutter speeds to see what was best for the effect I wanted.

8. While I liked the shots with the profile rolling shots in the background, I also like the simplicity of the shot that Jim picked, which makes the "Beast" look good without a lot of distracting elements in the frame.

Thanks for the comment! This type of shot can be done by anyone without extra lights & equipment besides a steady tripod. Just wait for the "late light" & a reasonably clear sky & take two exposures; one for the car & one for the background.

I really like the light on the first and last shot. Shooting into the light in #2 kills the contrast. Overall good angles and nice set.

It does. The highlights on the side are more subtle, & I liked the overall feeling of the shot as a change of pace.

I'm liking these a lot more than the first set because I can now see the quality of the paint work. I really like the pair of shots with 2 views. This is of a similar car that used to attend one of the shows I regularly attend, and the right arrow gets the engine photo. I don't know if I have any interior photos but it was done perfectly relative to the car.

That's a very nice car that looks like it could light em up in an instant. The Ram Jet Big Block should have gobs of low end torque with a pretty decent idle.

Nice series. IMHO 6 looks better than 7. I think the car in back is too big in 7.

How do you do such a great job at selecting just the car when you are combining frames like that?

That's the difference between finding a good location & picking the time to shoot & taking what you can get at a crowded car show. Taking a shot vs. making a shot.

I agree, but I try to give a few extra options when someone is willing to take money out of his pocket?

i like the lighting in the first 3, but cant get past the bush growing out of the hood/roof in the 2nd picture and that it looks like its going up hill. dont know if its on a hill or the camera was just angled off. bit both those things kill it for me in that one.

#4 is really good. If it was closer to the car it would have looked like a rig shot.

Two good points! Maybe I'll PS the bush. The lot was on a grade, but that could be fixed as well. If you look at the line down the side, it's pretty level, & maybe that's what I was using as a guide. (Not too smart?)

I desaturated #7 to make it less prominent. If he'd picked it for a print, I might have gone even farther with it & maybe added some grain from film. Playing with these is fun when I have the time.
