Anyone use Qflash's and umbrellas for formals. (Traditional Alter Shots)
I usually use my elinchrom ranger RX Speed pack and 2 heads, plenty of power, no AC needed and super fast recycle time. Tomorrow I have a wedding where time is tight, and we have already done the bridal session and this bride is Gorgeous and allows me to be pretty creative. She does however want some traditional alter shots including bridal party. Also the reception hall is fantastic for creative photos, so will also want to do some there. I have went back to the Qflash T5d-r for around the church because they are very portable, all day power and very VERY reliable and accurate, more so than I was getting with 580ex II of camera. I only use the 580 for some reception candids (second shooter) and precessional. I am thinking of using 2 qflash in umbrella holders with unbrellas so when I am done can just jump outside and take one of the qflashes with me. Will make things much quicker and get me to the reception quicker. Any thoughts? |

The qflash isn't gonna have anywhere near as much power as your ranger.

I use old qflashes and set up fully manual but they work perfect for me for formals.

Denny im not sure what kind of advice/thoughts you looking for.
Naturally the QT5d-r wont give you the same power as the Ranger. Its smaller, lighter and will offer automatic metering and you will be able to use it for fill flash. If thats what you need it will work fine. Kindest |

Thanks guys, I always try and mix in some ambient, so shoot at 400 iso and usually 1/60th or even 1/30 to keep the background from going too dark so I do not need much power. The ranger is way over kill as its set to a very low setting.
I just looked and the wedding party is 14, probably not a good time to try something new, may use it a little before the ceremony and see if I like the results. Last edited by dennykyser : 5th of September 2009 (Sat) at 08:42. |
