Not at all ... you responded to posts after mine, which made me think you were deliberately ignoring those of us who fell on the side of the photographer Evidently that isn't the case, which is dandy.

ofdphoto i do like looking in the galleries, but this sort of "ART" does'nt hold my attention.Like others have said it is in the eye of the beholder.
I understand now was'nt the blurry mess sorry last of the 3 taken with film, obviously she thought she had got the shot but realised after developing she had'nt so tries to fob it off as art instead of going back and recreating the shot properly.

There is a market for everything, the trick is finding the market that your work fits best.

Luke,

You've made interesting comments about the images. Out of curiosity, define what you think fine art photography is. What it includes, and what it does not.

I don't know the dictionary definition of "fine art photography", but I guess my working definition would be, "photographic imagery that commands attention, stimulates thought and is out of the ordinary - or could be reasonably seen as such by others".

Fair enough. As to dictionary definitions, there are none in agreement. It's all over the board.

Continuing with my puzzlement and in my quest to understand the market, the buyer and the art of the contemporary fine art photography culture, I found this in the same magazine (Lens Culture).

It's an article entitled Covered, 2009. From the article:

Quote:
Covered, 2009 is a body of work that depicts a palm tree in my father’s garden wrapped in material to protect it from frost over the winter months. The project was completed at the start of spring just before the covering became redundant as a protection from the cold weather.

The domestic garden is a controlled and contrived space, one that often has ambiguous status. Here the natural world is explored but equally is a symbol of man’s continued desire to bend nature to human will.
Okaaay....

Images are here. Each print is a limited edition of 7.

I am not only beginning to understand that it's all about the art, but in addition, am becoming personally inspired.

I'm considering producing a series... a body of work... about terds floating in the toilet.

But first I must carefully consider how they represent man's inhumanity to nature and the role man, himself, plays in nature. I have begun to understand how the floaters - encompassed, surrounded, and forcefully confined in their ceramic hell, cry out for freedom and how the flush, an action of man against nature, frees their souls. Coming soon. Probably a limited edition. Get you credit cards ready.

You know, like in Roll form?

Just a quick comment...10x15 is hardly a weird proportion....it is 2:3 aspect ratio....same as the camera format for a large majority of cameras....think 4x6 print.

Listing isn't the same as selling.

As soon as you figure out why a Picasso fetches what it fetches, you're home free.
