Default 85mm f/1.8 is ON THE WAY!

Hello,

I am new here, and have enjoyed all the reading and learning that all of you provide. I have had my 300d for about 2 months now, with the kit lens. I have now ordered an 85mm 1.8... and it is in transit now from B&H. My main purpose (at first) will be indoor dance competitions... and indoor youth volleyball. I read... and read... and hope that I made the correct choice for what I need. At some point, I may need some more range... and then will have to start the choosing process all over again.

Thanks to everybody on this board...

Oh man.............you will not be sorry!!!! This lens is just perfect for those applications u have mentioned!!!! GET READY!!!!

WARNING: Don't be surprised to see purple on reflective objects when using this lens wide-open.........this is not a flaw.

I see you couldn't wait to update your sig

For more range, you might treat yourself to the 135mm f/2L. Enjoy!

You're going to love it. My favourite lens by far.

Thanks for all of your support for this lens. I couldn't have picked it without this board. FlyFish... awesome pic! RoanJohn... very impressive dance pics on your site. Hopefully I will have a few turn out this good! I looked at a review of the 135 f/2L. wow! I think the next lens I want is the 70-200, preferably with IS. I am several hundred dollars away from that lens though! I cannot believe my wife actually let me by my 85... so soon after the camera! She MUST really love me! First volleyball game is in a couple of weeks. I will have a couple of practice weeks to try to "get it right" before the first game. Then dance recital at the end of June... and a nationals dance competition the end of July. Hopefully I will have had enough time to master, er, get okay with, the setup.

135 f2 is 1st on my wish list. Wish I had it for the recital. But the 85 is so affordable -- great value.

The 85mm f/1.8 is, quite simply, the best lens decision I've made thus far. Here are a couple of shots to give you an idea of its' low-light capabilities:

If I had to choose one lens over the others, the choice would, well, there'd be no choice at all.

Enjoy it!

I tried to get in to Seoul on Saturday to buy the 85. I wasn't able to make it and now I have to wait until next weekend. You just made my wait that much harder.
