Default Duomo, Firenze, Italia

The first stop on our European trip and probably my favourite, Florence. I thought I'd post my shots of the cathedral first as it's such an imposing building. I still remember my first view of this when I visited Florence 16 years ago.

All shots taken on 400D with either 24-70 or 70-200 lens.

C & C welcome.

1. Via Del Proconsolo

2. Via del Studio

3. In the shadow of Duomo

4. The frescoes of Vasari and Zuccaro on Brunellleschi's magnificent dome
Three shot hand held panorama, two exposures created in RAW

5. Via Ricasoli

First one is my favourite.

Glad to see you had a good time after the lens decisions!

Lovely!! I need to get back there. It's only been 11 years for me. I spent four weeks in Florence.....I could spend a lifetime there.

Thanks Greg, I just love the lines and angles of these old buildings.

The 24-70 did most of the work in Italy - the 70-200 didn't really get a lot of use until I got to Prague although it was good for picking out architectural details. Could have done with a wide angle but instead relied on creating some panoramas (first results to be posted in next series!!)

A week in Florence simply wasn't enough for us (although it was probably enough for our kids!). I would love to go back again. Thanks for the comment.

#1 is fantastic, the B&W works well for those buildings, I agree.

Every time I see photos of this magnificent church, I long to go back....We climbed to the top last year and although it was exhausting, it was also amazing. To be right under that fresco and so close was awesome.

LOVE the photos!

Thanks, glad you like it. I was surprised at how effective the black and white conversion was compared to the colour original.

Thanks Maureen. Yep, it was a bit of a climb - it was seriously hot when we did it. I didn't think the kids were going to make it! I've posted another view from the top of the Duomo in my second series which you can see here

Wonderful Imagery!

The shadow of the dome really is impactful and speaks to the power of the church over Italian life.
