Default Wireless remote vs. Wired?

The idea of a wireless remote sounds really interesting (except for changing out batteries, but I assume they last for a long time). But going beyond interesting, can you guys tell me how/why your using wireless remotes versus wired.

I know I want to get one (or more remotes) from these choices:

1) Basic Wired
2) Wired with timer/intervalometer functions
3) Wireless

What situations are you guys using wireless and would you recommend it? Price isn't too big an issue. I am planning on getting a generic version from somewhere and all of them seem reasonably priced.

Thanks!

I wrote this review a while back: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...hlight=micnova

I'm really happy with wireless. Other than not having to deal with batteries and saving a few bucks, I see no reason to get a wired remote. They're constraining, and they add something to trip over. My friend had a 5Dm2 on a tripod, and he was using his wired remote to take pictures. His dog came running in, tripped over the cord, and knocked over the tripod. He made a diving catch to save the camera, but he bought a wireless remote that night.

If price isn't an issue, get wireless. I couldn't recommend that Micnova remote more. It doesn't have an intervalometer, but everything else about it is great.

Wireless = flexibility and untethered.

I use the wired version over the wireless version because the wireless one cost $429.95 plus shipping. I just don't see the advantage with the wireless especially at that price. I'm always near my camera when I use the remote so I see no purpose for it to be wireless.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Thank you for your help! The generic versions are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper (that's still an understatement). The wireless version I am looking at is ~$30/shipped.

Wired or wireless, for me more sepends on how close you are to your camera when shooting. Taking pics of the kids and grandma does not really need wireless so save the money. However if you are mounting a camera on a fence for a race in a spot they will not allow people to be in while the race is going.... most wired remotes are too short and you cant move arround to shoot other things. Or mounting the camera behind the backboard in a basketball court... again wired is not really a good idea.

Just think how you will actually be useing it. That will determine what you need to buy.

I can tell you that the Canon IR one is difficult to use because you have to be in front of the camera and the range is lowsy.
