Wonderful shot! Not only in terms of clarity but also the colors and light balance! Cheers! |

Well, I just got mine a couple of hours ago and must say, I am impressed with the sharpness, color, contrast and very quiet and effective IS system!
Here's a couple of quick test shots; The first stopped down all the way on tripod... ![]() And this one, hand held, wide open at f/2.8 with the IS on, 1/8 second exposure...which is about twice as slow a setting as I'd normally try hand held without IS. ![]() These are full frame shots from my 1DsMkII body with no crops...just a post sharpening for the web sized shots only. Cheers! |

Thanks Pete!
I agree! The more I play with this lens, the more I like it! Here's a couple more...these both on tripod, at f/32 just to see how much detail it can pull in. ![]() ![]() Cheers! |

what kind of flash did you use/how? you keep these crawly things around your place? did they sit there and pose for you? |

buddhasghost,
nice pics, at last some macro shots I have been looking for. can you comment on the IS (right now I am assuming you handheld these) it would be much appreciated. Basically, how well it performs at 1:1 handholding, any comments? Thank you Martin |

I'm going to rent the lens to see whether it is something I really need but I have some serious Lens Lust for it
Noticed the blur on this picture....it was shot at 1/30! Was there a reason for such a slow SS? Last edited by Dmab : 26th of November 2009 (Thu) at 11:14. |

So did you trade up your 100 Macro USM for a 100L Macro IS?

Well, the blur really isn't that distracting and it's a good example of the worth of the IS system! You definitely got your 4 stops worth out of it!
Cheers! |

sarcasm^
![]() i think it's out of focus. i doubt that 1/30th of a second, even without IS, let alone 4 stop IS, would yield such poor results. |

sorry etherton. that sounded wrong. i don't have it yet, but will post when i do, ok. i was saying that 4 stops of IS, if on, would normally stabilize a 1/30th of a second, shot, don't you agree? I was defending the lens. that doesn't speak for the motion of the subject, etc.
got it, see? |

With a steady hand and a stationary subject, you should be able to go down to approx 1/25th of a second at normal telephoto shooting distances with the IS on. That said, not everyone holds their camera with the exact same steadiness or always has the opportunity to fire off a frame before the subject moves away from what was in focus. Bottom line here; this is a new lens, people are excited to post their early results and we all need to relax and have some fun with it. And most certainly not spoil their fun with pointed questions and harsh reviews of their work. Fair enough? Cheers! |
