I see black cards used more and more, lately, do they really help control spillage that much to warrant them ? A lot of photographers I talk to are swearing by them. I would be interested in see a comparison..with and without (not asking anyone specifically to show me, but just curious if anyone would know?)

The black cards in my shots are not initially intended to prevent spillage onto the subject - rather, it's intended to prevent spillage into the camera lens and preventing lens flare. I DO use them on occasion when I want to block light or prevent its transmission. In a lot of ways they can function as large barn doors if you know how to position them correctly.

I'm a little bit OCD when it comes to product/commercial photography, and I just like to make sure everything is controlled properly.

Interesting shot. If it were mine, I'd try cropping it to just have the hands and maybe a little part of the arms. Cut out the face and shoulder.
