What program? Latest updates? Did you check with the program manu's website to make sure there's not an issue?

What kind of computer? What camera?

"Date Taken" is stored in EXIF information of the image file. Windows understands several image file formats, but it does not understand Canon RAW files. As a result, you won't see Date Taken displayed for Canon RAW files.

So he has the raw viewer add-on, and what camera? It's why I tried to ask all the right questions. LMK what he has!

edit: is this vista? I don't have vista, so I can't say. There is a raw viewer for XP, but I don't even run that. Most of the time, it's the software that needs an update, but knowing all the facts can't hurt! And it would be a "good to know" for us, too!

Go to Explorer, and select View > Choose Details and see what choices you have there.

But I don't think you'll be able to get the info to show. The problem is that the 7D is a new camera and Vista isn't aware of the file format. In fact, as explained above your OS generally has problems with any Raw files unless updated Codecs are released.

The reason JPEGs are recognized by your OS is because it is a universal image format so the JPEG Codec is built into the operating system. Its different with RAW files since their formats change with every new camera model released.

Yup. Do a search for CR2 codec and you'll find some info on things that will show thumbnails in Explorer - one free and paid for. I use the paid-for one by Ardfry and it does show the 'Date Taken' info in Exporer. Not sure if the freebie one does, but it's worth downloading anyway.
