Default table top tripod opinions

I plan to use my G3 for macro photography of eyes. In addition to a 4 diopter macro lens and ring flash I have been web shopping for a mini tripod. At B&H Gitzo, Hakuba, Bogen and SunPak and a few other brands have mini-tripods that allow the camera to be positioned about 30-35cm above the table. All these brands are unknown to me. Prices range from US$20 to $100. Any comments on features, quality, ease of use etc.
