The only use I've heard is an EF-S 10-22mm being adopted for use on a FF.

There was a 10-22 where the guy disassembeled the rear of the lens and put on a EF mount and got it to work. Cant find the page to link to. That is about the only way to get a EF-S on a EF mount. Though I have heard it will go if your hammer is big enough.

you will also have the mirror slap the rear of lens on some of efs lenses

The Tokina 12-24 will work fine all the way to around 18 or 19mm on full frame before it starts to vignette. Like all "crop only" third party lenses, it only uses the EF mount, not the EF-S mount. And it clears the mirror on my 5D2 just fine, at least to the 18 or 19mm point (never had an reason to try it wider).

I've heard of using a hack saw on the EF-S mount... But that was done more often when they first came out and a lot of people were still shooting with 10D, D60 and D30, none of which could be fitted with EF-S mount lenses.

I've tried the EF-S 17-85 and 17-55 on 1.3 crop. I decided it wasn't worth the conversion as you ALWAYS have physical vignetting at ALL apertures throughout the ENTIRE focal range. Kinda useless if you ask me.

Now, 1.6 UWA lenses work quite well on larger sensor cameras. You usually lose the widest focal lengths but due to the larger sensor sizes, it usually makes up for it.

I've modded my EF-S 10-22 to use on both my 1.3 and full frame cameras. It is very happy around 12.5mm and up on 1.3 and 16mm and up on Full frame. Here's a bit of the description on my mod:

The problem is that you have to be careful not to leave the camera at 10mm because there is mirror interference. It can potentially damage your mirror/shutter assembly, your lens, or both. Using a filter and a spacer, you can limit the zoom of the 10-22 to keep it in it's safe zone. But if you also use it on a 1.6 crop cam, then you probably don't want to do that. I've just been careful and have not had any 'accidents' in over two years of using this setup.

Alternatively, the non-canon UWA lenses also work in similar ways, but you don't have to worry about mirror interference as they're designed with a longer backfocus distance. They don't seem to give you focal length ranges quite as wide, which could be due to the longer backfocus. The exception is the Tokina 11-16, which I'm guessing because of it's larger 2.8 aperture and larger diametre glass allows it to work around 12mm on 1.3 crop, just like the canon 10-22.

I also commonly use the Sigma 30 1.4 on the 1D. It also suffers from physical vignetting but it's widest apertures disguise it well enough that it just looks like light falloff. It works really nicely for me as I typically use fast lenses to specifically use at fast apertures.

The light falloff isn't actually that bad... I added a lot of it in post.

I've tried modding the EF-S 60 macro as I think it would be a nice partner for my 1D mark III. Someone here modded theirs and it worked really well on their original 1D. But on the 1D mark III it suffers from mirror interference so it isn't quite a slam dunk solution. I don't know if it works on the mark II or mark IV.
