You may have to turn off the IS. It may not show on the LCD because of some delayed response of the screen. With dramatic movements IS can be choppy - I've seen it through my viewfinder when shooting stills, but only when my movement has been significant.

Set exposure to M during video, shutter speed to 1/30th. Change ISO and f/stop to get the proper exposure. Make sure your speed is 1/30th and it should be okay.

If the video's choppy with both IS on and off when you pan then I'd ask if you are recording at 1080p? 1080p kills all but the fastest computers. I need a PC upgrade myself to work with 1080p.

I am seriously considering the 7D as an upgrade from my great 40D, love the fact of the video availability. I have heard issues of jerkiness in the playback and various ways to render the file to prevent that but mostly using final cut pro, which is a mac product and I am still in the pc age!

I was a pro video guy before I got into photos so I am very aware of what is needed to edit and render video that is not choppy or filled with issues.
You photo guys were able to get away with a somewhat dated computer to edit and sort your photos but throw in a gig of 1080p video and now your at the store buying faster better , blu ray, more HD space ect. Good thing is that computer prices are way less than a few years ago.
