What great light you had!! I like the shot. Could afford some sharpening in my opinion.

It's actually the United States Navy, registration 161266, a DC-9 but in military form a C-9B

Charles, what airport did you find this bird?

It was doing a few laps in the pattern at KCNW after shooting a few ILS and GPS approaches. It flies out of Fort Worth Naval Air Station.

Unsharp Mask 75%, Radius 1.0, Threshold 1.0. I use the "TLAR" method... "that looks about right"... so any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm seeing a tiny halo around the wheel. For a similar sized image, I usually use 100, 0.7-8, 2. For prints, I'd use a Radius of 1.0-1.3 most of the time.
There are a lot of workable variations on that starting with different values for USM, but things like that halo can be eliminated by sharpening different parts of the image at different settings.
Selection for sharpening illustration.

Another type of Selective Sharpening Tutorial using masks.
