Just look for weight ratings for legs and heads on the manufacturers' websites and match it to the combined weight of your body and lens. Leave a good margin. Look at Giotto's or Manfrotto if you're sensible with money (voluntarily or by necessity) or Gitzo and Feisol if your pockets are deep.

canon 100-400 lens? make sure you take into consideration that its an extremely long and also heavy lens. sturdy tripod definitely a necessity.
