Thanks to all who participated in the challenge this week. There were some great shots as usual! Here's my take on this week's entries:

John_B and Fiber Blue - So that's what fiber optic strands look like up close. I have an old set of some with a red LED but haven't taken the MP-E to them yet. This was an interesting shot with an almost "time lapse" effect. It's clean and simple, and I like the contrast of the blue with the black.

Daniel2000 and "Light as a feather" - This was definitely an interesting take on the subject. Was that a red feather or red gel on the light? You captured some nice detail in there.

Flo and Web Lights - Another interesting take. Like you, I love capturing the refracted light in dewdrops, and drops on a web are always intriguing. I like the composition, the sharpness of the drops, and the nice bokeh.

Warl0rd and Not so bright - Great detail on the coil. Did you use a dimmer switch at all or just get it with the fast shutter and f/11? I confess I love these kinds of shots. Being able to see lights like this let you appreciate the normally unseen way of how they work.

Monty and Brokey Bulb - This is an amazing shot. How on earth did you manage to capture it? The smoke really makes the image. Nicely executed in all aspects.

Jason C and Powered by Sol - 'Tis the season for these lights! And I see you're energy conscious as well. The primary colors make for a nice subject, though I wonder if a different arrangement might've had more impact. That might not have been possible with the lights though. Still, part of me wishes you could've overlapped all 3 at one point to see if they would make white.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm giving the win this week to Monty and his Brokey Bulb shot. I was "blown away" by the image.
Runner up goes to Warl0rd and Not so Bright. I loved the clarity and the detail in it.

Thanks again to everyone, and congratulations, Monty!

that was indeed a red feather, made the red pop a bit more in the PP
thanks
I had made a few "light" shot recently and then figured "light" can mean something other then the one where brightness is involved...

Thanks Lisa!

I had four light bulbs and four exposures to try to get it right... that was the last one, first three were way overexposed.

Warl0rd -- congrats as well and I love the detail here!

Awesome photos everyone!

I also wanted to say Happy Anniversary to the Macro contest -- It has certainly made me a better macro shooter and I love seeing the different takes on the subject matter. So thank you very much John!

I'll get a new contest up soon.

Allright Monty! Great images all!!! And Lisa, thanks for the challenge and the words.

My first images were just up close and detailed captures of the same solar lights, and those were just boring. Then I started to go OOF, and a whole world opened up for me. Multiple lights just over ran images with flare and odd looks, so that's when I decided to go to the main colors in the strand and isolated them. Boring, yes, but a heck of a lot less boring than my first tries. And now I have the image to put on my christmas cards next year...woo hoo.

Congratulations Monty, its really good. I must confess I'm as curious as lavanut, how exactly did you do it? did you broke the bulb while on? broke the bulb then turn on the light? And I agree, the smoke is the killer element.

@lavanut: mine was shot with the camera on a tripod, adjusted the rig position so the lamp filament was in focus and then switch the lamp on (no dimmer), and the fast shutter speed, low ISO and light loss from ETs / high mag. are enough to capture the detail. just a bit of PP to make the background more black.
