Right now DxO Optics Pro Standard is available for $109us. If you shoot RAW, then this would be an excellent choice.

What sort of price is Elements in dollars? Must be somewhere near your figure. You might get lucky if you search the net for unsold ( and now unsupported) old versions of Photoshop.

Then have a look at GIMP and Picassa.

Elements goes for about $80 new and you can usually find $20 rebates.

Probably Photoshop Elements or PaintShop Pro. I believe each has trial versions - so suck it and see which you prefer.

Mike,

Elements sells in dollars for a very similar amount in sterling. Another sign of rip of Britain? With the $20 discounts you actually must be close to half the price they ask here.

This seems like a good deal for Elements 8. I'm also looking for an entry level post processing program. Currently I only have PS 5.0 LE. I'm assuming there is not an upgrade path coming from 5.0 LE?

Our sales tax is 6% but if you buy things on line, you only get charged the sales tax IF the on line merchant also has a store in your state.

It's probably only a matter of time before they all charge it. Right now, you're expected to pay a "use tax" when you file your state income tax forms. The use tax is equal to the 6%.

If you are a student, LR2 is $99, or if you can find someone with an old copy of LR that they don't use, LR2 upgrade is $99 as well.

If you are on a Mac, PSElements V 8 is the bargain of the year right now. Accidentally or on purpose, who knows, comes with full version of Bridge and Adobe Camera Raw. The windows folks don't get full version of ACR and no bridge they have another image browser that never worked well for me.

Myself, I'm a DPP and Picasa kinda guy. (Free)
