Default G3 dreaming

I'm dreaming about buying a G3. Pictures like the one below are making me want one.

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...hreadid=150163

Are the deals for G3 cameras on EBAY too good to be true? There are G3 cameras + tons of accessories in the $300 - $900 range. Anyone with any experience buying a G3 through EBAY?

My main interest is macro shots, is there a good macro lense available for photos in the 2"-12" range or is the stock lense good enough?

Well AndyCook,
If it sounds to good to be true it usually is.A large percentage of the camera on ebay are gray market .Meaning that they don't have a U.S.A warranty. Also most of those accesories are of poor quality. And the prices are greatly inflated. You much better off buying from a reputable retailer such as my favorite B+H photo http://www.bhphotovideo.com .I'm buying my G3 from there this week and accesories.

Good luck, I hope this helped

I agree with Astro. Stick with the reputable dealers and you will pay less in the long run if something goes wrong. I also use B&H (and have for years) - never any problems.

B&H has them for $699, would much rather get it from them (ordered mine this morning online)-no hype, pressure, just reputable camera guys. I've been dealing with them at least 10 years-film, lenses, flash, accesories, filters-name it. If you have a problem with something-they are very good to deal with, not like the non-existant customer service horror stories you read at BizRate, Dealtime, etc. on the cheapie dealers. Once they have your money, bye bye...so don't get stuck.

And like Astro said, you don't want those overpriced low-rate "accessories". You can get better accessories for very reasonable prices elsewhere. These guys get this stuff cheap, bundle it with a camera, tack on $200-$300 for junk.

Filter adapter? Go with Lensmate-no plastic, but METAL. Less to worry about cross threading-and believe me, those tiny threads in that plastic adapter WILL crossthread. I will definitely get a couple of the Lensmates. They also have Hoya's close up set for a very good price, you may want that also for your macro work. Check out this link:

Good luck, and get your camera. I have made myself crosseyed and dizzy reading this forum, Phil Askey's site's owners comments on the G3, photography review.com, and looking at all the G3 samples at Photosig.com. I drive myself nuts-so with the Tax refund & a little store bonus-I only live once, so might as well be happy.

Best regards, happy shooting,

Kerry

At buydig they have them for 617 + 25 shipping. Although they have some bad rep for their customer service, my experience has been decent (returned mine for a dead pixel, and got a new one).

Purchased a G3 with USA warranty on line from www.6ave.com in New Jersey for $564.44 plus shipping UPS Ground of $10.42. Ordered on Mar. 4 shipped on Mar. 5 received on Mar. 6. Found their site at pricegrabber.com which lists numerous sites that sell the G3.

BH Photo has it for $609, they are well known and I believe the shipping is free. I would purchase it there. Wherever you make your purchase from make sure you get a US warranty and a reasonably priced extended warranty, I believe BH has the extended warranty for $60. Sometimes the best price is not as important as the dealer/seller, make sure they are reputable. So whatever you decide, good luck.

Default Buying on ebay

If you are going to buy something on ebay then make sure you look for the sellers feedback rating. I have never been ripped off when buying from ebay so I feel that it is very safe and you can get some amazing deals!
I'm looking to buy the G3 and the A70.

I would watch out for Ebay. Even if you check the seller rating. I was bidding on a brand new G3 with U.S. warranty. Too good to be true. The seller had 15 of them. Well, it happen that someone stole someone elses User Bidder ID and password. How that happen I don't know. I got an email back from Ebay saying to cancel my credit card if I was one of the highgest bidder. Luckily, I lost my bid!

Just my .02 cents!
