1. decide which formats you care about ( I care about SmartMedia, because of my Handspring Visor's .. whatever .. oh, yeah MemPlug module, which I use for backups ), AND CF, so I searched on http://www.dogpile.com/index.gsp for
smartmedia compactflash usb and looked around. most are USB 1.0/1.1, which I don't want ( less than 1MB real bandwidth? when I'm using a 3.8MB/s Lexar? Why wait 4x as long to get the half gig of files? ) Also, check the reseller's reputation on places like http://www.resellerratings.com/ http://www.epinions.com/ etc. because getting stiffed .. sucks big-time, eh? The one I choose to get is made by Soyo ( maker of motherboards ), and it fills the second small-drive bay in my PC's case, so that's just marvelous. http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=...tween&filter=0 for Froogle's current scan of prices of the ones Soyo makes, and Soyo's comparison-page, but notice that they tell you, outright, that you'll need 3 internal USB ports/connects to use all the ports in 'em ( card-reader, USB2.0, USB2.0 ) http://www.soyousa.com/products/comp...&ids%5B%5D=160 if you aren't a geek who chose ultra-funcitonal motherboard, or if you just happened to not end-up-with one, you can use an add-in USB-card, but you'd still need a free drive-bay in the front of your machine to add one ( SO tidy, though, in comparison with the separate USB dongles ) one of these resources oughta help... Cheers |

well, is gonna be for my G3 so, i'll need a compact flash reader and writer. So, based on your saying USB 1.1 is lot slower than USB 2.0? I believe the latest i've seen is USB 2.0? Correct me if i'm wrong.
Thanks, G3guro. |

If I am not mistaken if you buy the USB 2.0 card reader you most likely will need to buy the USB 2.0 card to install on your motherboard. Read the specs about your USB ports in your PC owners manual to see what type of usb ports they are...just my 2 cents
