Default Images from my Flickr on guesethouse blog, without my consent?

I just noticed in flickr stats that my pictures were linked from the following URL:
http://brooksguesthouse.blogspot.com/

I've had no contact from the owner of the blog, and am not really happy about the images being used to on their site without my consent.

if you go to the site you will find a thumbnail slideshow about 3/4 of the way down the left side of the page.

Can anyone advise me what i should do about this?

Contact their host and inform them of the copyright violation. Include links to your original work. Any reputable provider will take care of it. You could also email the thief and tell them to take the photos off. If they stole them, which I'm sure in their mind; Anything is free online, they probably will not respond to your request. Doesn't hurt to try though. I'd definitely contact the host first.

Nothing wrong with what they're doing, they're using the API and are linking back to your original images - THEY HAVE NOT COPIED THEM. If you don't want them to be able to do this, go into your prefs.

I agree, there's nothing wrong with what they are doing. If anything they are doing you a favor with the free plug. You gave them consent, albeit indirectly, though you should know that your preferences need to be changed if you do not want to give consent to be used.

An image of that size as stock may get you $35 if anyone wanted to buy it for web use, RM....

I've just looked through the flickr prefs, but i'm not really sure which setting to change, would one of you be kind enough to give me some more specific info?

I'm going to contact the blog owner in a couple of days once the Xmas festivities have cooled down a little.

I would just delete the image as well. If you really want to have the image up there on flickr, I would delete and re-upload with a watermark. Just that simple. I would not worry with the letter if you can take care of the problem yourself by simply removing the image from your stream.

Well that hardly addresses the problem does it?! what is to stop it from happening again once i have re uploaded the images.

The only thing you can do to stop it is to never upload to the internet. That will address the problem wont it!

But seriously that is the only way to stop it. There in nothing you can do beyond that to prevent theft of images off of the internet. Disabling right click does not stop anything. Clear .gif's over images do not stop anything. If it can be shown on a screen it can be stolen. It is just that simple. This is why so many are adamant about putting watermarks on every single image that gets uploaded to the internet. Yes, watermarks disrupt the image, but it also send a lot of thief's on to look for other images.

I'm not familiar with Flickr... But, couldn't you replace the pictures with a File that says "Brooke Guesthouse are Thieves"

Because the pictures are linked.. This would replay over and over on their website!! They may get the hint at that point.

You may not get the $35, but IMO... will be much more fun!!

I don't understand the argument that nothing is being done wrong. The delivery method (copying to their server or hot linking, etc) doesn't really matter. They are using his photos without permission.

I respectfully disagree. I have gotten this argument several times from people who have stolen images from my website and posted them on social networking sites.

If they contacted him and asked permission, that's one thing. But, as the photographer/business owner it is his right to decide who advertises his work, and how it is done.
