Your typical traffic flow at DTW is arrivals on the outer runways (22R/4L & 21L/3R) with departures on the inner runways (22L/4R & 21R/3L.) There will be circumstances where the lack of departures will cause arrivals on the inner two runways briefly to shorten taxi time for that landing aircraft, it happens every once and a while... and is a spotters worst fear.

The majority of charter traffic such as sports team aircraft, charter airlines such as Miami Air, SkyKing, Pace and Swift to name a few, take runway 21L/3R for arrivals and typically request this on approach as their typical destinations on the airport are ASIG and the Exec terminal which are both located on the East side. Most business jet traffic typically follow the same trend.

An extreme rarity, but if found in this situation, you can use Harrison Rd. (dirt) that runs North/South. Position yourself to your liking at either runway in either lighting conditions.

Andrew,
Thanks for putting this together. I'm trying to get something like this done for CVG (Cincinnati) and DAY (Dayton). If anyone else wants to have some input on either CVG or DAY, please let me know.

That would be awesome. Hopefully we can get a whole bunch of spotting maps and get them stickied. I'm also working on one right now for YIP (Willow Run)

Great Job on this Andrew. Need to work on something similar for Sky Harbor and some of our other haunts in AZ. One of our AzAero Group members did one for Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson. I'll have to see if I can borrow it and share it here.

FYI, I've started a thread in "T. Talk". Sticky: Spotting Guides - where do you shoot from?

Great guide I was about to post and ask about this but luckily did a search first.

Are there best times to shoot ?? and what are best focal length ranges. Thanks
