Default what lenses are you using on a crop body for G.N

Need to buy a suitable lens for indoor G.N photography,i have a crop body camrea 450D,

I own a 70-200 L F 2.8 non IS.that may be suitable for some aspects of G.N photography-mainly out doors.

I am leaning towards either a canon 17-55 F2.8 orTamron 17-50 F2.8

the other option i was thinking 24-70 F 2.8.i will be purchasing a canon ex 580 mkII flash at the same time.

Hope there is someone out there using a crop body camera fo G.N,that may suggest some advice.

thank you

I love my 24-70 2.8 L on my Xsi and now my 7d. check out my fotos on MM www.modelmayhem.com/1071212. Most of the beach shots are done with the 24-70 and I am looking forward to getting some studio with it. My other lens is the 70-200 2.8 L . Would not get rid of either of them.

I shoot with a 40D and I most often use my 50mm f/1.8.

The Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 is very capable and great value for money and also gives you more wide angle versatility which your current set-up doesn't seem to provide.

24-70mm is a lovely focal range for G&N though, but you might find that 24mm is not wide enough depending on your choice of indoor locations.

I use whatever works best for the situation; the 24-70 a lot, but I can get away with the 70-200 for head shots. Depends on what kind of distance you have in the shooting area, too.

Personally, I think the 24-70 is the winner indoors unless you want to use a faster prime. You want to use longer focal lengths in the 70 range for good compression. Much under 50 and its easy to make the model look wide. For indoors, I use my 24-70 or 50 prime. Outdoors, nothing beats 70-200 L. I love that lens.....

28-75mm Tamron is my main glamour lens. Sometimes I use the Canon 70-200mm though.

I do use the 50mm 1.4 in my arsenal too.

50mm isn't really enough for GN even indoors. It amounts to an 80 at most. I'd want something that took me to at least 120 or more. I dont usually shoot a crop body in the studio but would shoot the 24-105 for GN.

In studios, aren't most shooting at f/8 and smaller? So isn't the 24-105/4L IS more versatile then?

perhaps but the image quality isn't as good as the 24-70 and 70-200

No, there is no comparison. There's a reason why it's a kit lens.

I think you may have a bad copy. My 24-105 holds up well compared to my 24-70 and 70-200.

I like my 24-70 f2.8.L. It's good for tight spaces.

I shoot a 40D and a 50D. Generally, I shoot the 40 with my 17-55, and my 50 with the 70-200. Once in a while, I get out the nifty and play. All depends on where I'm shooting, outdoors, with enough room the 70-200 generally gets the call. That's my kit...
