Challenge #262 - Chairs

I was driving home last week and passed a vacant lot where a single office chair was tossed aside and subjected to the elements. We sit in them, we share them, some are considered art, but most are useful to nearly everyone. A chair must be in the photo this week. Good luck.

Challenge Results

Lanton – Lucy Protecting Her Chair:
This definitely made me smile! She is pretty serious about her chair!

chisel – The café is closed today:
I like this. I would’ve like the see the pattern shifted to the right to pull in the left set of stacked chairs. I like the patterns and symmetry.

teekay – The Empty Chair:
I like this chair too. A tad OOF but definitely not your ‘standard’ chair.

Car – Modern Art Chairs
A great sample of ‘chairs’. Maybe change the camera angle to create a different perspective. But well done with all the backlighting.

Kevan_G9: Wild mushroom pizza effects; Mr. Penguin sitting in chair:
This is great! The ‘chair’ in the reflection; job well done.

rpolitsr – Goliath’s chair:
Another great shot of a ‘chair’ that is not ‘normal’ or ‘standard’. Just imagine the table that goes with it! If it was based on size, winner hands down.

Marie – best bring your own safety belt:
Crazy place for a chair on the back of a horse-drawn trailer. Makes me think about the story of this chair; looks like it has gotten full use.

Michael Wells – Inching Towards the Light:
Great lighting. Nice chair. What’s just beyond in the dark? Love the creativity.

Thanks to all the posted and went out in search of the chairs!

This challenges winners are:

WINNERS!

1st - Kevan_G9: Wild mushroom pizza effects; Mr. Penguin sitting in chair:
2nd - Michael Wells – Inching Towards the Light:
3rd - rpolitsr – Goliath’s chair:

Thanks Cory. I was really scratching my head on this challenge and I had a bunch of ideas that probably could have lead up to my arrest had I attempted them. Like the empty chair straddling the double yellow line on a busy roadway, with me standing several yards back in the middle too, with traffic zipping both ways, blasting horns and flashing lights as I fidgeted with various settings. Then there was the one, out on a barren, snow covered, lake. If the police didn’t get me on that one, my wife would have. And frankly…I stand a better chance surviving the due-process of the law. No, I’m glad I took the easy way out, staying inside the house, though I suspect some might be otherwise disappointed. My very first notion was to do a parody photo of Lanton’s wonderful entry. I really enjoyed that photo and I had arranged to have my wife take my photo on our front porch, snow all around, basically holding the same position and expression, snow shovel and bag of salt nearby, protesting the need to shovel the damn stuff, something I do with great zeal. Protesting I mean. But my much more mature son intervened, suggesting that in a photo challenge, one does not parody another person’s entry. Dang…I had this one so captured in my mind’s eye. He was right and the photo was never taken.

Marie, wonderful photo as always, but that chair looks to be older than Ireland itself. I’m convinced its design and modest measure in comfort is probably a direct contributor to the quality of your country’s beer and whiskey. Bless that chair!

My photo came about with the recent purchase of a crystal ball of all things. I’ll admit my future needs all the help it can get, but I thought too that it could be great fun to play with it, taking bizarre-oh photos. The thing measures 4 inches in diameter, but to weighs a freakin’ ton! Maybe the 3 inch would have been more prudent. The camera might be pocket-worthy, but there ain’t a pocket in the world that can hold that ball! As far as using it, the time it takes to right the inverted image does present its own challenge.

Congrats to my fellow winners though both left me a bit concerned with your entries. Michael, I try my best to avoid anything to do with going towards “the light”; and Rafael…well, he has always been a giant around here. Small wonder why.

Thanks again and I’ve got the next challenge already figured out and will post it tonight. You can face it first thing tomorrow.

I would have loved to see the the parody of Lucy, that would have been good. No idea what she was protesting that night, she is usually really sweet.

Thank you for judging cory. Congratulations Kevan.

Congrats Kevin and Rafael! Thanks, Cory, for a place in the lineup this week. Unexpected for sure, given some of the great shots posted! Marie, I suspect there is a story that goes with your photo...would you care to enlighten us? Cory, what lays in the dark behind the chair is my basement, and it is best left that way!:) Kevin, I really got a chuckle out of your idea of a chair out on a frozen lake...I seriously thought of the same thing! Most of NW Iowa looks like northern tundra right now, so it would have been easy to set up, but finally decided on trying some "light painting" instead.
