Edit: Questions/ Statement are for your 1st image, as while I was typing, you added another image.

It appears you have a lot of DOF. Composition wise, did you have the space/ line of sight to the left, to shoot landscape? A landscape shot would be more appealing IMO, as it would have shown the lines, the exhaust, and still captured the afternoon sun/ colors. It appears to my eyes', that the UP Crest & Eng. #'s are slight OOF, and the trees' to the right, are very much in focus. Where was your focus located? What were your settings? Your exif has been stripped. Did you link this photo from a gallery somewhere, or has it been constrained via Save For Web, to fit the 150KB maximum?

Excuuse me -are you acusing me of plagerism?-if not then --Sorry - this is MY photo out of my camera if that is what you are asking-- and it was sized down in PSE7 to fit the restraints here .
Thank you for your comments!

Dude,

Take a Chill Pill. You asked for CC, which I was providing. Apparently you did not accept it, and read more into my question, than I asked. Get off these boards, if you think I'm accusing you of stealing someone's photos. My reputation is rock solid on these boards. Many of us on these boards, link our images, from outside hosting sites, as our images do not degrade that way. Whereas, saving the images, and compressing them to fit the attachment requirements, typically degrades the quality of images that are shared.

Easy guys....just a poor choice of wording.

As far as the images go....I'm not sure how well the portrait orientation works here. There is no place for the train to go. If the image was presented in landscape, there would be some room down the tracks for the engine to progress. You have some nice heat waves in both images....if I had to pick a favorite....I would have to go with the second shot. The first shot just feels a bit awkward to me.

It seems to me that James asked a legitimate question & you found a way to be offended by it. Some websites re-process images, which affects quality. Or trying to make an image with a lot of detail fit the 150KB rule can also affect the quality we see.
So if/when you don't understand the reason behind a question, try backing off on the attitude before asking for clarification from someone who took the time to try to help you? It's already hard enough to get comments besides "Awesome car!" around here.

As for my opinion, if You posted just one of the shots, I prefer #2 because it shows the entire engine. If you posted a series of shots & included #1, then it would show off better details in the front IF it were sharp.

Love #2 - the engine's in focus.

#1 the trees are in focus instead of the engine.

Thanks all !! The first one was "comin round the bend" at 40mph or so --with little time to compose -- and thats all there is to the photo--nothing to expand to and very little cropping done . I will work on getting some better shots --especially after checking out the "post your best train shots" thread.

I normally hang out in the "birds" area -- and these beasts don't come back for a second bite --like the birds do. And they won't back up for a "do-over" like other objects. One has to think real fast
