I just got my s90 in the mail today and I'm really excited! The only issue is that there is slight light leakage on the LCD screen on the bottom right and middle bottom of the screen.
It's not as bad as the leakage problems from the G9 that was all over dpreview a few years ago. Do you s90 owners see these slight leakage problems? is this just normal and I'm being overly paranoid? Thanks. Added a picture in pitch dark taken with sd500 so not the best quality. It's a little bit more pronounced than the picture shows but hopefully you get the idea. ![]() Last edited by s90newbie : 13th of April 2010 (Tue) at 22:19. Reason: added picture |

Post a pic. That's the first thing everyone's going to say. Nobody can help if you don't show a pic.

Here's a picture with a better camera. Is this normal light leakage or something I should get a switch from beachcamera or canon?

Does it bug you during normal operations? It has no impact to your photos, and the only time I would consider it an issue is if during normal operation, it washes out the screen during composition and review. If not, then it is nothing to worry about.

You wouldn't see that if you didn't have a backlight on the LCD. Of course, if you didn't have a backlight on the LCD you wouldn't see much on the LCD at any time. If it bothers you, go into the second setup menu (with the wrench on the tab) and turn down the LCD brightness.

Thanks for the tips. Decreasing LCD brightness down to the lowest level I can barely notice the leakage at all. It doesn't affect my viewing the pictures and I only notice it when I first his the "Play" button and it goes to black for a second so I can view pictures.
I was just worried that it meant I got a faulty LCD and that it'd be a sign of malfunctions to come. I just spent $400 and am a bit anal at geting a flawless unit. |

I haven't noticed that on mine, but don't think I've used it in a real dark surroundings yet, so guess I should check it out.
I doubt anyone blames you for wanting a $400. camera to be flawless though.

Nothing man-made is flawless...
As a side note, your LCD has no internal lighting so you don't have to worry about your LCD. The lighting for LCD screens are external to the LCD.

I guess I'm going to keep it since it seems you guys dont' think it's that big of a deal. I barely notice it with the lcd brightness turned down anyway. And returning it is a really involved process since I bought it online.
Thanks for your help guys! Will post pictures soon to join the community =D |
