Default Needed a break from baseball, so shot...

SOFTBALL? COME ON!!

Finally get a break Saturday rain or shine for some lacrosse but after covering over 60 teams already in baseball could use a switch for a day. Anyways, doing this for the college with not much action going on and a 400 way too big (was coming from the baseball game down the road and didn't bring the 300). Noticed I saved these pretty low so the quality went away and they don't look as sharp as they actually are, which is a switch lately as my 300 and 400 are both having focus issues.

#1 - Starting pitcher of game 2...

#2 - Third Baseman sportrait...

#3 - Frustration...I coached her in softball in 8th grade, and volleyball that year to. She now plays college softball and volleyball.

#4 - Short fields these softball things are, from home plate area and that's center field.

#5 - OF action was all that was going on for awhile...

#6 - Shooting through the OF fence...

#7 - Basic hitting shot...

#8 - Ended soon after with the mercy rule, this teams coach got her 100th win I think I heard...

Nice series of images, #6 is the homerun for me (fav). Looks like a fine spring day in NY good lighting. Again fine set of photos, always learn when I see your photos, thanks!

Yessir, #6 is a total money shot. And boy, looks like she hit that one HARD somewhere. Talk about squareing up the bat on a high fastball!

All nice shots. Also liked the 3rd baseman shot.

Your ability to radically switch gears like that is what makes you a pro mike!

For a typical high school softball game, is the 300 a better choice or a 400? (or a 70-200)

My assistant has a daughter who plays third base and pitches. I've never shot softball before but am going to try April 19, and 26. I'd love to get some nice shots of the young lady pitching.

Personally, the 300mm is a better choice for softball. If she's at third base, you'll either need to shoot through the fence behind home plate or from the first base side dugout with the 300mm. The 70-200mm will do fine if you want to shoot from the third base side. If she's pitching, it really depends on the look you want. Here's an example from the game I was assigned last night. These have minimal cropping, so the framing is about the same. I was shooting through the fence behind home plate.

#1 7D with 300mm attached.

#2 1D Mark III with 70-200mm @ 200mm.

Thanks - and it was a nice day, though I look out the window today and it's low 30's with rain/snow on the way. Ah, WNY weather!

It was a hit, to the fence I believe but not positive. First shot from out in that area, couple more similar but this was the best of them.

I know, talk about a total 180 switch - this kind of drastic switch is what puts the stress on I tells ya!

I'd rather have the 300 for a typical game and should have brought it. The 400 will help with middle infield/outfield shots but little too tight for the pitcher and hitters depending where you can get to. Softball pitchers delivery offers a lot of options, more so than baseball pitchers I think overall.

My favorite non head-on softball pitching shot... shows how they hide/disguise their pitch
