Default Maternity Photos help

Guys, I'm new to this but I want to try and get some good basic pictures of my wife. We have had 2 kids and have one due in Sept so I want to try and document this one more.

I know its about the lighting for the B&W photos. I have a 420ex on order for my Canon XTI. My lens are listed below and I know none are great lowlight, but I would like to stick with the 50mm 1.8(yes the 1.4 is better), but being on a baby budget can this work? If not, I may have to stick with well lit pictures.

any ideas and tips would be great please. I dont know where to start... Im not the best with a camera, but I love photography and take somewhat decent pictures

rose I took yesterday(yes I know its a flower and people are different)

again, im not sure where to start but I want to atleast attempt some. Thanks in advance!

I'd just search maternity and get ideas. That's what I'm doing now.
