Congrats to the winners and a hearty pat on the back to the other contributors!

These weekly challenges are becoming a family event here in the Kevan_G9 household. My wife picked Erik's rose photo to be the winner (I was personally rooting for Michael's dandelion). My son the Rebel (meaning the camera he carries), was impressed with cory's entry, and my daughter was too busy graduating from college this past weekend and heading off for 2 weeks in Sri Lanka, carrying her new G11, to say much. If she starts entering this fray...I'm in big trouble.

It's swell to have Jannie back in the pack. May her G11 live long and prosper.

I like Erik1974's Radiant Rose as the clear winner, but in a field of such varied and creative entries, second place is a great honor! Congrats to all, and I love the photo gallery shot of all the entries.

I shot all around the yard on a sunny day for this competition and I was pleased to have a few backlit choices to submit. The others are in this album.

As always, thank you for a great challenge that pushed me to learn more about my G10!

YUPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII 3rd place, Oleeeeeeeeeeee
Congrats to everyone, great & creative images we had this week. I was not so sure that my post is what Rpolister asked for, since the sun on my pic is not the main light as it is on other posted pics. It is important part of the pic, but the fill flash put enfasis on my subject, not the BL. Almost changed my post but was bit busy this weekend.
Thanks Rpolister for hosting and the 1st place is worth the crown! Good decision
cheers people.

Woooow, didn't expect to win actually, but i am honored you picked mine as winning image. When i saw Jannie's and marie's picturs i thought those where nr 1 and 2 for sure.
Congrats to all the contributors, i liked all the images and especially the creativity of the backlit dandelion, too bad it is not as sharp as it could have been.

A little explanition on what i did seems in place, so here it goes.

I took the rose and a white piece of paper and stuck the rose through the paper, i placed a table lamp behind the paper and started taking pictures in all possible ways i could think of, most of them where pretty bad as the rose kept falling out of the paper. I placed my camera on a webcam tripod so i had my hands free to hold the rose and the lamp in place, wich finally led to the posted image. I also had this one as my 2nd best picture:

Thanks for the compliments and am gonna post the new challenge!

b.t.w. nice to see all entries in one picture Rpolister, good job on that one!

A hearty congrats to Erik1974, afkenner, and IVOlution! I too had the rose picked for a winner this week...beautiful shot. It would have served well in last weeks HIGH KEY challenge also! Re: my dandelion...as usual, I tend to do things on the cheap, so this shot was in the quick and easy dept, as time was a bit of an issue this last week. It was set up on a table top in my basement. Camera on a tripod, the dandelion in a glass on the table, and an inexpensive concave makeup mirror positioned benind the head of the dandelion. Light was provided by a mini maglight with a red filter on the lens, postioned roughly under the subject, and shining into the mirror. The somewhat blown areas are from the "hot spot" created in the mirror by the light, and I hid that as best as I could behind the center of the "ball". Focus was a challenge, and I finally went with "something in the middle" that seemed to be the lesser of several evils. So, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! As always, I enjoyed everyones entries a great deal!

Congratulations to Erik1974, and the other finalists. I had Erik's as the sure favourite in this challange as soon as I saw it, beautiful use of light. And I had Jannie's bottle coming a close second, the colours in the glass looked great.

Rpolitsr its good to hear my shot intrigue's you and would evoke more questions than comments. The object questioned was the base of a champange flute (see below) with a little man about 2.5cm high incased in the glass.

I was actually playing around with a new lens I had purchased recently when I saw the sun coming through this slot in the window behind me, so with this challenge in mind I quickly shot off a few frames set on macro of the little man

I thought there may of been more entries this week and I'm looking forward to what Erik might have installed for the next challange.

Thanks to all for the comments.

afkenner, there are other beautiful flowers and leaves in your gallery. I have just a few pictures of flowers, but love the shadows in the petals too:

Nice work in the lighting of the rose, Erik a simple setup can yield very good results! 'Simple' setups are not always easy to achieve.

A lot of work in the dandelion to describe it as made in the quick and easy dept. Michael, thanks for sharing the clever lighting.

objetda your picture would be a record-making post in the 'MACRO!!! The Guess what this is game' thread, Thank you for disclosing the mystery.

Thank you, marie.
The display of thumbnails was the product of a series of coincidences.
The first, an unfortunate one: Due to a damaged hard drive, I lost my automated actions for building the thumbnail displays used in previous challenges so I was forced to create a new one.
The second, my backlit image for the display of thumbnails had too many buildings and houses in it.
The third, and most important, my son RafaPolit was creating a virtual landscape to test a new 3D software and I used it to beautifully replace the buildings in my picture.

The result was the image with a digital picture of my 'real' garden in the bottom (where I placed the easels) and a 100% virtual backlited landscape in the top that blended nicelly. The real picture and the virtual landscape matched almost perfectly in color and perspective by coincidence, because we were working in different and non related projects. .
It is a pity that the right most image is not my real garden .

Congratulations to Erik - worthy winner, and to 2nd and 3rd Afkenner and Ivolution.
Thanks Rafael for hosting and judging, and providing such a beautiful backdrop to the gallery of submissions.
Have to agree that Erik's shot was beautiful but I also really loved Jannies too.

Rafael, nice voodoo. Not to take away from your efforts, but I might have opted to make the tree a bit more grey so it blended a bit moe into the scene. Still...all in all, very good. Bravo!

Sent you an unrelated PM.

Congrats to Erik, Afkenner and Ivolution.

Really quite a range of contenders this week -- thanks to All for contributing as this challenge brings quite a lot of inspiration and how-to for creating very dramatic shots.

Great work Rafael... worthwhile challenge, and quite an amazing wrap-up with the thumbnails.
