I've been hired to do interior shooting over the summer and figured I should learn how to do it after looking at Architectural Digest and all that good stuff- there's a ton of it. Flash works well sometimes but a lot of the time kills the natural direction and quality of light, which is a huge part of high end real estate and architecture.
Although I used both off-camera flash and HDR, I'm more interested in the HDR aspect of things. I've actually only tried HDR once or twice back when I was just starting and we never really got along, but now I have to learn or die (client has requested it...in her words "our old photographer did something weird...he was always talking about combining exposures together...and we like that look.."). Some of these are HDR only, some of them are flash only, and some are HDR and flash together. Anything that would help me improve the quality/feel of these would be greatly appreciated. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I assume you want to retain the warm tones to enhance the wood. I think some white balance adjustments could still be made and a small increase in contrast too.
Here is an example using your first image. You would be the best judge as to how well this edit matches the actual colors, especially in the carpet and leather couch. Overall, I like your photos. I think some minor adjustments will give them that extra pop.

And here I was scared I was going to see something that looked like a computer generated painting....thank GOD some people know that HDR in moderation is where it's at.
Well done! |

Thanks guys - thought a few things were bugging me, so right now I am going through and straightening walls, correcting barrel distortion, adding contrast etc. I'll post some of the finals up soon.

This is what HDR is meant to be, I can't tell you how much I find it annoying to see 90% of the HDR images so over done.
Good work, these are great.

I worked out the lines and white balance. I think these are as close as I'm going to get without buying a 17 or 24mm TSE(and i'm not getting paid enough to do that) Here are the corrected versions:

The last picture i will critique simply because i have recently been hired to do some realestate work as well. There is a small blob of light in the upper left hand corner that can be cloned out. Second, the window on the right of the bed looks to be a little blown out. if this particular shot as an hdr, take the underexposed image and put it behind the finished version and mask out everything but the window. that may help you to get some of the detail back, but might not. its worked for me on several occasions.
