Default NEW and streamlined Canon Lineup - 2011 -> onwards

Canon - our Think-Tank has finally decided to take a more aggressive stance to an impending Sony onslaught. To retain marketshare and for global dominance, Canon will announce the following in the 4th Qtr:

G - Series to remain

The EOS Lineup:
The numbering convention will be streamlined into a logical order.
EOS 1 series - representing the foremost and flag-ship model.
In addition, clarification on the Range Lineup will be as follows:

Series
1 = Pro
2 = Pro
3 = Pro
--
Series
4 = Pro/Semi-Pro/Enthusiast
5 = Pro/Semi-Pro/Enthusiast
6 = Pro/Semi-Pro/Enthusiast

Series
7 = Beginner/Intermediate/Enthusiast
8 = Beginner/Intermediate/Enthusiast
9 = Beginner/Intermediate/Enthusiast

"....descending-down to the 9D Series aimed at first-timers into SLR/DSLR photography."

The XX0D series of models will be discontinued.
All new versions of Camera-bodies will simply be suffixed with the successful ' Mark 'x' ' designation.
This will dramatically affect the 8D & 9D bodies where the frontline-war on megapixels will have the greatest impact. After 2012, the NEW 7D will absorb the overflow.

1D
Only FF bodies x 2 - One top-of-line Camera only, other with HD Video

2D
NEW TBA - based on 1D - but with advanced Video capturing technologies available as Crop-sensor x1.3

3D
New TBA - will replace the FF-sensor Series 5D/5Dii - Retaining all current 5Dii capabilities and features, identical BUT under the 3D designation.

4D
(No plans)

7D
The current camera will remain on the market. Be warned, in later years 2012 onwards this camera will nolonger be available badged as the 7D.
The feature-rich specifications and capabilities will be made avaialable. NOTE: the 7D was quickly launched in response to competitors launched products. In hindsight the 7D badging/designation has been an error!

7D
NEW - from 2nd Quarter 2012

8D
NEW TBA - as the 9D with Auto Program Mode Selector Dial & Semi-Manual Modes only (e.g. AV/TV + 3 x Fully Auto Program Modes)

9D
NEW TBA - based on newly developed x1.5 sensor - 'Point & Shoot' camera for newbies into SLR directly from the DigCam 'Point-and-Shoot.
Features: 3 x Fully Auto Program Modes - based on ISO speeds from 200 - 800 - with built-in flash

2 all new Flashguns:

680EX - yes with a little more power and more physical manual switches:
(Master/Slave, FEC, HSS/SCS)
180EX - NEW - a light-weight, slimline/low foot-print flashgun designed specifically for the 1-Series cameras

Any questions about the above, kindly PM me.

Yep - it's all happening here -> exciting times ahead for the 'Canon Klan'.
The 135mm F2.0 L will be revised to a MarkII incorporating IS.
So, I will hold out until its actually available.

Perhaps Canon should be renamed CLANON - in honour of its loyal following!

The 9D sounds like something designed in 2005....

First of all, thereīs a mismatch with the current range - Canon sells 7 models, not 9 - 1Ds, 1D, 5D Mk. II, 7D, 50D, 550D, 1000D.
Second, how would they name the following models? 9D Mk. II, 9D Mk. III, 9D Mk. IV, 9D Mk. V and so on?
I donīt say that it doesnīt make sense, but the system is so simple that if they wanted, they would be already using it.

Translation problem;
7D -> 7D
60D -> 8D
550D -> 9D
1000D -> 10D?

There's one too many in this range..
