Default Gigapan Epic Pro

Hey folks,

I am wondering if anyone out there is using or has used the Gigapan Epic Pro system for panoramas or "gigapans" as they are being called. It looks pretty impressive and the little boy in me is screaming out "I WANT ONE!!" but I don't really have a spare $1000 to be spending on a toy. Anyone got any feedback....worth it?

Craig

I want one of these also. Not sure it would get much use, but it looks like it would be so much fun!

Certainly something cool to play with.

It's like an elephant. I like to look at it, but not sure I would want to own one.

i am seriously thinking of getting one for the HDR feature. upto 20 bracketed shots in any one position. it beats the rubbish 3 that canon insist on setting on all but the most expensive models. i can garentee if i get one it will be worked hard for huge panos

That's typically the kind of tools that would be great to buy by a photo club to be shared by members.

Never really seen the use for these when you have programs like Microsoft ICE that can perfectly stitch hand held shots. The only times I can think of where one would be handy is with 360° indoor shots where accuracy might play a huge part, or for really large panoramas using loads of images where it would be tiresome to shoot them all by hand. Tbh even the first situation could be worked around by using a proper pano head, it's only really the huge shots that need to be automated.

Work bought one.
It's currently sitting in the cupboard.

I have been out with it to have a bit of a play, but it hasn't been used for a job yet.
I have some ideas of things to use it for, but haven't yet (will have to see if I an borrow it for the weekend)

To be honest I think it is a bit of a one trick pony, once it has been used once or twice it wont get used again

And it doesn't automatically do the exposure bracketing, it just takes multiple frames at each "stop" in the panorama shooting.
You still have to set the camera to shoot the bracketed exposures
