using vintage cameras? with digital?

i was at a wedding the other day and the photographer was using a 5d, but she also was using a vintage kodak brownie with a black tube attached to the top. she would point her digital slr camera down the tube and take the photo through the brownie. can anyone tell me what this tecnique is called? she said it gives a vintage feel to the photographs. i started looking around for brownie cameras and found tons of them but they are all a box shape, the one she used was a rectangular slimmer profile. anyone has info on which cameras are good for this effect and what its called, thanks God bless

Seems an awkward way of doing things.
Wouldn't it be easier to just take the shot and create the effect with post processing

its kind of a naturalist thing, iv heard that the effect in photoshop dont compare to the originals

I saw someone doing this recently when we took a boat tour in Boston - I stopped him to ask.

He had a vintage viewfinder camera, and had built a light proof box around it - then he had a DSLR, with a macro lens, focused on the viewfinder of the vintage camera. He had put a shoulder strap on the thing, and carried it under his arm. Sure, it was bigger - but didn't look too bulky.

He has a flickr page he gave me the link for - I'll see if I can find it tonight.

From what I was reading, the effects you get on these old bodies is typically very random and special - every body is beaten, scratched and scuffed in their own way, making your photos unique in ways you can't post process. The effects on some of his shots was quite neat (sometimes not so neat too).

Sounds like maybe that photographer is using an old camera for a Holga or Lensbaby-esque look...

Very cool; it reminds me of the post-production process that makes photos look like they are actually photos of miniature models.

I really like his work but, as with HDR photos, it's probably better in small doses.

Im with you on that WABRE, also extremely envious of Armandos new kit i had a glimpse of some of his work yesterday, as always it was stunning .
PS any news on your R1 Mark_Q ? and Exciting700 are you still using your Sony N1?.
