I am thinking of buying an EOS 7D. This will be a bit of a learning curve for me and it looks as though the camera does not come with a printed instruction manual in the UK. Is this correct please? If there isn't a printed manual can anyone suggest a good easy to follow guide? I see from the internet that there is the Magic Lantern Guide and The Expanded Guide but without seeing these books it is difficult to judge how good they are. Any advice would be appreciated.

You could always go to the Canon site and download a PDF of the manual then print that out...
Hey, presto - printed manual.

What documentation is provided with the camera in the UK - a .PDF file on CD? Just curious.

Can't say for sure about the UK version but if they package it the same as the US version it should have a printed manual in it, mine did.

Thanks Philwillmedia. I would rather have a printed manual than a print of a.pdf file but that would do as a last resort.
I think that the manual in the UK is on a CD but I am not sure. That is why I wondered about the various published guides. |

Yes, agree with oRGie. Bought mine from UK and came with printed manual and 2 CDs. One with Canon Software and the other one with the various instructions in pdf format.
Happy reading. J. |

Yes it definitely comes with a 'real' manual - Well the one my friend just bought did anyway.

The printed manual is in a handy pocket size. I duplex print the PDF version (minus the unnecessary pages) in a readable A4 format.

As do I for my cameras, I find the tiny little manual Canon provide far too small at my age!

I think the manual is small so you can keep it in your bag.
Print the manual from the .pdf file on some 8x11" paper (or whatever is standard format for your country) and it will be easier to read. |

vid1900,
It goes into the bag, but I just cannot read the thing. In fact often the A4 version (which goes with me everywhere the camera does) needs the author standing next to me to explain what he really meant. |

At Ipex in Birmingham, Canon printed the 7D manual and had Duplo make booklets of it. In A5 size, not the A6 you get in the camera box.
Interestingly, they printed the pdf one page displaced, so everything got skewed by one page in the manual. The system overview ended up back to back, not side by side, as it should be. Cute to print wrong on a graphic trade show. But they had a lot of manuals to give away.

Thanks to all for your input. Does anyone have any thoughts on the Expanded Guides or Magic Lantern Guides bearing in mind Lowner's comment about needing the author to explain what he meant?
