tonight was a wonderful midwest night ! Look at that sky !

Gabby is a daughter of a co worker of mine..

Paul and I have worked together for at least 8 years now, so naturally he had asked me to do some senior photos for her.

Paul worked the lights for me and this is my fav from tonight.

alien bees, with PLM 64, and Vagabond what a combo.. great light , triggered by Cactus V4's

power was 3/4 power camera right

this pose made her eyes open, and she gave us this perfect expression.

she is stunning in person and as photographed..

her dad boomed the westcott softbox for me slightly out of camera view. camera right..

lighting was a single soft box 580 EXII with 1/4 cto gel

wedding and senior season is about to happen again..

I love viewing these types of images, but even more, I enjoy the set-up shots. I learn most when they're posted, so I would like to see that.

How did you get the eyes to pop out that much? I usually do some contrast and brightness boost but it doesn't bring the detail and color out like that one!

Nice work.

Mr Pham--great questions. I think it should be for the graduating class of 2011.... that means it will be this summer and fall shots because most schools need the shots in prior to November. and lets make it your best 3 shots per session. That way, everyone can get an idea of what you can do at a session and its not a showcase of your best stuff. the more creative the better. And people should not be afraid to put up work. everyone can/will benefit from this. Ultimately, it about getting people better skills and being able to put out a better product for your clients.

My goal would to see guys/gals raise the bar and i think they will realize thats its not easy. But to get the results you want will require dedication and determination, and to me, ultimately, thats good for the industry. PPA memberships would increase, and those industry standards will given more considerations before people jump into the business and declare themselves professional photographers.

And did i mention you guys were gonna dig Tiffs water shots.. cant wait to see some of the work many of you guys are going to present--should be killer.

Just some sharpening and a little saturation boost. Most of it was getting the light right in the eyes.

Oh.. i see..

thanks for the clarification..

---------------

so here is Gabby's session on the farm.. the first one is in the top of my original post

1.

i used an alien bee 1600 for this light..

for farm sessions, i just use the studio lights .. being they produce the most powerful lighting and the difference is very noticeable compared to speed lights

lighting was camera left and gabby was on a crest of a hill.. so when poseing your subjects have them look down a little because you want the sky so you are shooting upwards..

i think i had the ab1600 at 3/4 power with 64PLM as modifier

CameraCanon EOS 5D Mark II
Exposure0.013 sec (1/80)
Aperturef/9.0
Focal Length85 mm
ISO Speed100
Exposure Bias0 EV

IMAGE: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4074/4878103838_ccfa3c67e1_b.jpg
[IMAGE'S LINK: http://www.flickr.com/photos/-phamster-/4878103838/] (external link)

2.

wish i had a studio and if i did i would have a huge tractor tire and wheel assembly just for this!..

we worked on her dad's friend farm. so when walking by and looking at all the options for posing this shot came to mind

light was the ab 1600 with the 64 PLM camera right, power was about 1/2 power about 5-6 feet away

works right?

i have the wider shot but for cropping purposes i choose to crop in to this version for facebook ....

CameraCanon EOS 5D Mark II
Exposure0.01 sec (1/100)
Aperturef/5.6
Focal Length85 mm
ISO Speed100
Exposure Bias0 EV
FlashOff, Did not fire
