My camera went for an uncontrolled trip off of a horse drawn carriage when we were on holidays the other week. The pop up flash was broken and the lens had a faint grinding sound so since the owner of the carriage was going to pay for the repair I sent it in. The camera is a year and a bit old and the lens is second hand. This is Canon's email to me.

"To Our Valued Customer:

We have received your equipment for evaluation and repair, as detailed below. Based on our initial examination, we will start the necessary repairs at no charge to you.

......[clip].......

Thank you for purchasing Canon products and for giving us the opportunity to serve you.

Best Regards,

CANON CANADA INC.
CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTRE"

Can't argue with that.

Vortex - what part of the frozen tundra. I used to live in Winnipeg where we had 2 seasons - Winter and Mosquito.

I had a great experience with the Mississauga service center. My 5D went in for the mirror fix, and they had it back in my hands in 3 working days.

Is that the same as Winter and Construction?

Canon Mississauga treated me well recently. Had to send in a body which left me using my backup for a shoot and Canon didn't have any loaner bodies available. The day before the shoot they couriered me a body with a note stating to return it when I picked up my body which was within the repair timelines. Great service and this was before I was a CPS member.

I've had mixed results.

40D sent in for focusing issues. Sent back "in spec".

5DII sent in for stuck pixels, with samples. It was like a Christmas tree. Sent back "in spec". It was impossible to get a response from them and impossible to talk to the Service Manager. I, finally, emailed the President of Canon Canada. 2 days later, they ask me to send it back in. Stuck pixels fixed. They mapped them out, I believe, since nothing was replaced.

135L sent in for a bent mount, I had dropped it on a tile floor. It took 6 weeks because they didn't have a mount in inventory. Had to come from Japan. They covered it under the warranty which was a pleasant surprise.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

Excellent! Now go back to the carriage driver and tell him it cost $500 to repair.
