I cannot push any buttons on my 550EX when it is connected to my D30. I have tried everything I can think of.
The only thing I can do is push the back light and make the screen light up green. I cant change any settings or fire a test flash. If I pull the flash back in the shoe just a little bit so that the connection is lost, then I can push the buttons and change the settings. But when its connected to the camera, I cannot change anything. I've also had some trouble where the flash continually fires over and over when connected to the camera. Any ideas about what might be going on here...and/or how I could get it fixed? |

I had a thought, is there any way to do a reset on the flash. I was having trouble with my iPod once and I called in to apple and they told me this button combination to push which reset the whole iPod. Can I do that with the flash at all?
(only problem is I dont think the flahs is my problem...I think my hot-shoe might be crapped) |

Its the camera...because now the flash wont fire...and also my built in flash (when used without the 550 of course) will not fire and I get error 80 which is the error that says the flash will not recharge after the first TTL fire.
So something about the flashes on my camera is messed up. ^%$&(*^&^) .... Maybe its time for that upgrade? |

Look on the bright side. You've always had envy of the newer Canon cameras. Even though the old D30 has been your favorite, maybe it is time to move on. Take the lessons that you've learned from it and move up a step.
You could probably get the D30 repaired. However, the repair cost would be a major portion of the overall value of the thing. The cost might even be more than what it is worth. Or, get a new camera coming and then send the old D30 in for repair. Once it comes back, you can use it as a backup camera. I'll tell you, when you walk into a wedding shoot with two or three cameras slung around your neck, the other photographers will get out of your way. ---Bob Gross--- |

Have you ever used that camera with another flash?
I used my D30 with my Phototrons (without the voltage regulator) and had to send it in for repair. Not Cheap. Just a thought
