Some promising shots, but there's something funky going on that I can't figure out.

Focus seems like it just missed, or the camera AF wasn't quite fast enough to track, or a cheap filter on the lens, or really heavy crops?... but whatever caused the softness, the sharpening tried to overcompensate.

EXIF is missing, but looks like you had plenty of light, so try more shutter speed. I'd guess these are around 1/500". Try to get around 1/1000" for LAX.

Faces and ball are OK in the first 6. Especially sine you can tell from the shadows that you're backlit in a bunch of them. Backgrounds are pretty good. Shoot a little lower if you can.

These are good, but some can be cropped tighter. The last one is a throw away as you have trouble finding the ball.

#7 is difficult to tell what is going on, if you had that from the other side, it would be better and you would have an idea what the player is doing. Here is he passing or shooting.

Exposure looks good. Horizons are good. Good job.

Focus on faces when you are capturing a player carrying the ball, shooting or passing.

Shoot tight and crop tighter.

Keep shooting.

I'm with Clarence, something just seems a little funky. Shoot tighter, and IMO I'd bump the exposure 1/3 or 1/2 to bring out the faces a bit more.

3 is the strongest shot, 2 would be greatly improved with a deeper DOF. Don't fall into the trap of feeling like you have to shoot at f2.8, if you see something develop that could benefit from more DOF, by all means go to f4 or f5.6.

Thanks,

I started out at 1/500 but quickly moved to 1/1250 for most of the shots. I was having trouble with the exposure, so I moved to the other end of the field and these backlit ones were my better shots. I don't have any filter on the lenses. I was shooting knealing with a monopod. Not sure I can get much lower....I don't want to sit...as I'd like to quickly get out of the way if the play comes my way.

Hmm...I need to work on changing setting faster...by the time I think to change a setting as I see the play develop, and actually change it...The play will have already happened.

Thanks for the help though. Hopefully I have another chance to shoot lacrosse in a couple weeks and I'll try to shoot tighter.
