Canon DSLR Speed Challenge #165

The Harvest

The Harvest is the topic. I so enjoyed looking at the Autumn photos for last weeks challenge, that I decided to continue in the seasonal vein. The topic, however, is broad enough for any interpretative spin.

This challenge begins when posted, and will end at 11:00 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday, 13 October 2010. Winner of this challenge will be announced shortly thereafter.

Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:

1. Camera - Any Canon DSLR Camera
2. Time - any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
3. Size - Please visit Image Posting Rules.
4. Post-Processing - do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
5. Posting - * ONE PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.* Photo Name in the message subject line.* Camera model & lens used.* Notes -- post brief EXIF data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used.
6. Commenting - No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
7. Have questions, PM me.
8. Have FUN!

One challenge every week, on the following schedule:

* New Topic - After winner is declared.
* Posting Starts - Right after topic is announced.
* Posting Ends - 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time Wednesday, 13 October 2010.
* Winner from this competition decides the theme of the next one (and judges it for a winner) after this competition is closed.

I loved looking at everyone's photos this week, thanks for sharing them! I thought they all worked extremely well within the theme. I have picked two honorable mentions in addition to the winner.

Honorable Mention - A Day's Work Done by Ed (dilorenzo1954) - I love the story that this photo tells, with the remains of the recently harvested crops in the foreground and the silos looking "content" against a soft sky in the background. The monochrome conversion adds to that feeling of rest and contentment that the whole photo conveys.

Honorable Mention - Gotta Get Those Berries by Robert Zurfluh - This is a fun action shot, and not something you see everyday! I like the moment you captured, and the position of both of the active elements in the composition. You really get the sense that the foreground worker is putting some elbow (and knee!) grease into his harvest!

Winner - Squirrel by monty28428 - I love everything about this photo. Yes, it is very cute, but aside from that the sharpness and composition are both excellent, DOF is perfect. Eye contact from the subject, and you caught him/her with the tail in perfect position & backlit! The cool color temperature adds so much to this shot, reminds us of the reason for this "harvest."

monty28428, it is now your turn to host the next Challenge, #166, with a subject of your choice. Click the Previous Winners link at the bottom of my first post to see what subjects have been used in the past. If you need help in starting the next competition, please feel free to PM me.
