As promised, here are a few more of the weekend's Oulton Park Gold Cup shots. For those that are interested, most were shot at 600mm to shorten the perspective. The first in the sequence is a three-quarter pan shot (yes, me and pan shots) taken with the 300mm from a spot very rarely used by photographers, and even then only for bikes.
![]() This brow of the hill shot has started to become a trade mark. For those who asked the question in the other thread, at this point they are travelling in excess of 100mph: ![]() The absolute classic Oulton Park shot with the Lodge in the background. Like the shot above you need really good hearing as it is the only way you know they are coming and can time the shot correctly: ![]() I like the view up the hill with a bit of sky and a touch of crowd: ![]() Just for our American cousins: ![]() The low-down sun makes an interesting shot but is hell for the driver: ![]() This beast has beaten Grand Prix cars in its day: ![]() Old Hall corner at the right time with the right light is just the place to be: ![]() This one is just for me. Simple but effective: ![]() And last. Yes, a pan shot, sorry but there you are. Oh, and taken with my 1D MK-I and 70-200 2.8L IS at 1/160: ![]() You can have some peace for a while as I am having this weekend off. I have a couple of short articles to write for two magazines which will keep me tied to the keyboard.

I've seen a bunch of your pics now and you very much like the 600mm semi-straight on shot....my only "complaint"....To much sharpening, like when you look at the hood on the Datsun...it looks almost psychedelic.

Ken,
Great set of shots here and on the earlier thread. I really like to see these classic cars in action. Particularly like shot 4 in this thread. Really fantastic shot. Don't suppose there were any Big Healeys running were there? Cheers, Simon. |

Sorry KTG, that's how they are and will stay. There is NO sharpening applied to the Datsun at all, it is how they come out of a 1D MK-I, eggerated by the reduction in size. If you don't like, don't look.

Hi Simon, not a one. The races were oversubscribed and they has reserves for some. Classic racing has bigger grids, bigger crowds and is more entertaining than a lot of the current series. It is only championships like the Legends that have crowd appeal as they are out to make it exciting and the succeed.
I was at Croft on Saturday for the BRDC red flag racing (sarcasm) that passed off as Formula Fords as well as the Scottish Legends. Not a lot of the Scots, but they don't have, or need, a lot of them at Knockhill. A few missing from Northern Saloons as well. Nice to see the Arrows Primera making up the numbers as he also runs in the LMA and the odd Southern Saloons. I'll be at the CSCC meeting next week.

brilliant shots as usual.
the Chevrons are just lovely bits of kit and look awesome! that "up the hill" one is my favourite I think Ken I need to get my "photographers eyes" (that's what I call it anyway) and think more about what's going on in the background of my shots. I tend to steer clear of cluttered backgounds like marshall posts and spectators and general clutter (safety crews, amublances etc) and try to get plain backgrounds (like grass or a plain gravel trap and tyre wall) so you are drawn to the car...and am thinking about what I shoot more and more, mostly your influence. thanks

Very nice again Kenny!
KTG, "train wreck"? Is that good or bad?

Yet again Kenny, more fantastic shots!
The first one is just briliant! Im not entirly sure what it is, Opel GT? For some of your low down shots do you find somewhere below the level of the track, (like the brow of the hill shot) or are you getting down on the ground? I can imagine you want to be standing and ready to run most of the time? Partial text deleted by moderator Last edited by defordphoto : 31st of August 2005 (Wed) at 05:52. |

All my MK-II images are processed from RAW with a level of sharpening suitable for magazine print. They are in fact under-sharpened, leaving the final processing to the magazine. Nothing else is done other than re-size for the web. The MK-I images are shot in RAW with no sharpening applied in processing at all, and again simply re-sized. Certain MK-I images do not resize too well with PS and can leave "stepping" on sharp angled edges. I do not have the time or inclination to post-process in another application to make them spot on for the web.
I'll take criticism from anyone with the right credentials. When one of my editors declines a picture then I'll listen. To those that have been here before - here we go again and I have better things to do with my life!
